Memorial Bench Care
Caring for Your Teak Memorial Bench
Your beautiful Teak Memorial Bench will arrive fully assembled, finely sanded and ready to take its place. There is very little memorial bench care required. During warmer months, you might notice a very slight, clear coating on the arms and top – this is a touch of PVA glue we apply to help the wood settle naturally. It will simply disappear over time or can be gently sanded away if you prefer.
The wonderful thing about our high grade Teak is its natural resilience. With its rich levels of rubber and silica, your bench is designed to grace your outdoor space year-round without rotting or shifting.
Memorial Bench Care - Keeping Your Bench Beautiful, No Fuss!
We strongly recommend not treating your Teak Memorial Bench with oils or varnishes. There is truly no need! Just place it in its cherished spot, let nature take its course and expect a lifetime of use. Over time your Teak Memorial Bench will gracefully mature to a lovely silvery grey. This natural change is purely on the surface and does not effect the bench's strength or longevity in any way.
A quick, important tip: Never apply oils to a bench that's damp, dirty or already silvery from age as this can cause the wood to turn black.
Why Does Teak Turn Silver?
This silvery hue is simply nature's own protective layer. When bare Teak is exposed to the elements, it oxidizes, forming this surface to safeguard the wood beneath. If you ever wish to reveal the warm, natural Teak colour again, this layer can be gently sanded back or carefully cleaned. We offer a Gentle Teak Bench Cleaner which works beautifully to refresh your memorial bench, removing most dirt, algae and even that silvery tone.
