While many bench retailers offer teak at a lower price point this is often achieved by using soley, or a mixture of, "sapwood" the soft outer living layer of the tree that lacks natural resistance to decay. In these inferior products, the pale porous sapwood is frequently chemically treated or stained to mimic the rich golden hue of high quality timber. However once exposed to the British elements these artificial treatments fail leading to rapid rotting and structural collapse.
