Featured on BBC The One Show
Here at Memorial Benches UK, we understand that a memorial bench is so much more than a piece of outdoor furniture, it is a sacred space, a focal point for remembrance and a tangible link to a loved one. We were immensely honoured to see one of our own engraved benches featured in a deeply moving segment on BBC's The One Show as part of a feature on "Celebration Day".
The segment, hosted by the compassionate Gloria Hunniford, highlighted how individuals and families find positive ways to remember those they have lost. The story of Gemma and her family beautifully illustrated this concept, focusing on the memorial bench they purchased from us to honour her father, Alec.
A Place of Comfort in the Face of Loss
Gemma's father, Alec, tragically passed away suddenly on Father's Day. To create a place for quiet reflection and connection, the family raised money for a personalised memorial bench, placing it at a favourite beach location they often spent time together.
During the interview, Gemma eloquently articulated the power of this physical memorial;
"It also gives us that feeling that we're still able to do something for him... it makes me so happy that he's still so involved."
This sentiment is the core of our mission, In the Face of Deep Loss, Find Comfort and Peace- A Lasting Tribute, Crafted with Care and Compassion. We ensure that every bench we supply is crafted to be a robust, high quality and peaceful space where families can continue their relationship with the memory of their loved ones.
Memorial Benches Designed for Family Tradition
The engraved memorial bench supplied for Alec’s tribute is built for permanence, allowing it to become a centrepiece for years of family traditions. The segment revealed the beautiful ways Gemma's family keeps Alec's memory alive, turning the memorial bench into a source of celebration.
Seasonal Decorations
They decorate the bench for holidays, giving Alec his "own Christmas tree".
Birthday Celebrations
They bring a cake down to the bench and sing to him on his birthday.
Continuous Connection
The children write messages which are laminated and fixed to the bench, showing that communication continues.
Community Connection
Friends often send pictures to Gemma sitting on the bench, saying "we pop to see your dad today".
These actions demonstrate how our durable, high quality teak benches, often supplied as 2 seat or 3 seat options, offer the perfect stable foundation for such heartfelt, active remembrance.
Our Commitment to Lasting Remembrance
To have our work recognised on a national platform like The One Show is a great honour. It reinforces our dedication to providing memorials that support families through their grief journey.
We are proud to craft benches that are not only beautiful but are built to withstand the elements and become cherished family heirlooms, providing comfort and peace for generations to come.
