On this hallowed ground, where ten brave American airmen gave their lives to save local residents in 1944, a beautiful teak bench now stands, a permanent fixture honouring their memory and the devotion of the man who has cared for their legacy for decades, Tony Foulds.

The Story of Mi Amigo
On 22nd February 1944, the B-17 Flying Fortress, Mi Amigo, suffered catastrophic damage after a bombing run. As the pilot, Lt. John G. Kriegshauser, fought to keep the plane airborne, he realised a devastating crash was imminent. Spotting a group of children playing below, he made the ultimate sacrifice, steering the aircraft into a less populated area of the park. All ten crew members perished, but the children were saved.
This extraordinary act of heroism is a powerful reminder of the deep bond between our nations.
